The Subway Safari of H.H. Clark 1888-1984

In the 1930's and 40's, Mr. Clark took the Subway from the East Side to The Bronx to see the animals that The Zoo had granted him special freedom to photograph. He knew all the cats and large mammals by name, and they responded to him.

Judge for yourself after seeing the following group of close-ups taken from the same side of the bars.

The Bronx Zoo was founded with a principal goal of learning more about animals and preventing extinction and it's causes. It gave rise to the New York Zoological Society and many other organizations which were emphatically PRO ANIMALS.

The 175 animal photos which follow have been grouped into 3 parts for ease of navigation.
